Wigates (/wigates / [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in the Cosea Provence of the Kingdom of Hobben.

The name Wigates is derived from the Sylvin language, as Wigates was founded by Giant Centipedes Popham, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Wigates has a yearly average temperature of 18°C (64°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a pleasant 22°C (71°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 15°C (59°F). Wigates receives an average of 260 cm/y (102 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Wigates covers an area of nearly 5 km² (2 mi²), and an average elevation of 696 m (2283 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Wigates was founded durring the early 10th century, by Giant Centipedes Popham. The establishment of Wigates suffered from several major issues, resulting in the need to develop many solutions to basic problems. Problems such as a lack of fresh water, logistical support, poor quality tools, and the odd monster or two. Howeaver, these were overcome in time.

Wigates was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 10th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Wigates is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Wigates is buildings are arranged within a network of premissive carved bedrock streets which form a rectangular grid, where each block verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller block has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town lacks any defencive features, though certainly constructing even a simple fence or digging a ditch is at the forefront of the 's mind. At least, one would hope so.

A look around Wigates has something terribly wrong with it. It’s impossible to put one’s finger on, but something is horribly wrong. Maybe it’s the way fog blankets the ground, but only in the connors of places. Maybe it’s the vermin scuttling between shadows in the corner of your eyes. Perhaps it’s the overcast sky which seemed to creep out of nowhere, or the distant howling of wolves. Maybe it’s all of those things together, or perhaps it's the way these elements combine with the simple fact that it is abundantly clear Wigates suffered something horrible some time ago. It's as if the town itself is depressed. Smiles are few, cheer is nowhere to be had. Everyone quietly goes about their daily business not looking anyone in the eye. Regardless, you do not feel it would be wise to remain in Wigates long.

Wigates has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Wigates has a Department of Firefighters, which is responsible for organizing fire fighting efforts during a fire and enforcing local ordinances relating to fire safety.

Wigates has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Wigates has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Wigates 's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Wigates possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Wigates 's grid is powered by a god's will and kindness.

Wigates has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Wigates has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Wigates 's garrison was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is best known for its functional shapes, abstract shapes used sparingly for decor, simple color schemes, holistic design, and basic industrial materials. Its simple designs were created to be beautiful, functional, and mass-producible. The style used little to no embellishment or ornamentation, instead drawing attention to the streamlined design, such as flat roofs to create a simple, geometric look. The simplicity masks the style's nearly sinister functionality, as every last feature is designed to guide the people living in the building in how to make the most efficient use of the structure.

Due to the actions of local Kami, autumn is skipped in Wigates .

The Dinosaur, Ceratosaurus near Wigates are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Wigates 's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves orgies to channel Elven High Magic energies of tier 3 via oath swearing.

Economy
